Having previously read 'The Unwords: Exposing the Dishonest Language of a Culture in Decline' by the anonymous author, I had high expectations for Bury Me in Her Eyes. How can this be, when so many humans try and fail. From his boyhood on the Mississippi, through his riverboat days, his writing and public speaking careers, and his adult family life, the main points of the writer’s life are covered. We hear news reports of examples of this now and then, but we do not get a good overview of its magnitude. It's not a fast-paced novel, so maybe not a great fit for people who like a lot of action. However An Early Frost is definitely not. Also revealed is what his assassin, James Earl Ray, was doing in Memphis during the same time and how a series of extraordinary breaks enabled Ray to construct a sniper’s nest and shoot King. Smith gets at some of the mystery in martial arts and insights into the strong man who founded it. We need more books like this. I will read more of her work.
