Ash frustrated me during this book and surprisingly Mason wound up being the more stand up guy IMO. In trying what this book suggested, my take away was to use a different technique for the time outs. I enjoyed reading this book. The book ended on a big cliffhanger, and book two picks up right where the first one left off. He has written numerous books and articles about East Asia, including Embassies in the East: The Story of the British and Their Embassies in China, Japan and Korea from 1859 to the Present (1999), and, with his wife, Susan Pares, North Korea in the 21st Century: An Interpretative Guide (2005). Because the book received consistently bad reviews in the British newspapers, I decided not to write a review, hoping that the book would fade from view. For example, in discussing the invention of a cell phone, the author describes how the work of Marconi, Bell, Faraday and others all went in to the various radio and telephony technologies that make up the modern cell phone. It's outrageous and only diminishes the atrocities Japanese have done in the past.
