For the Civil War history buff this book has a fair amount of information, written from the Union perspective, on the struggle to control the Mississippi River. When a Valuer submits a report of any type, he should not be in doubt about his submission; but rather be proud of his work and have a clear conscience of the material that is or was presented. The main difference between this series and her previous Reed Ferguson series is the lack of recurring involvement of sub characters to the plot.
